A friend (Steve Goldman) used this around 2007-8 with some success. He
had a weather station talking to the house through Dallas 1-wire and had
some integration with X10, and some control over his reef aquarium. Mr
House seemed to be the biggest game in town at the time and if I recall
correctly Steve had became one of its developers before his untimely
passing. Steve tended to put a lot of due diligence into an area of
interest and and then go with what he thought was the best bet for the
long term. At the time there were only a couple of competing systems. I
think Excellon was one, but seemed to be mostly smoke and mirrors, an a
quick search suggests they've stuck with industrial automation.

It's 3-12 volts for the control signal. Probably a garden variety solid
state relay inside the lump.
