Thanks, Scott. Released from hospital Wednesday. Leg strength up so I can stand up myself most of the time. Prognosis for use of right hand dismal. They cannot operate until IV antibiotics done on 20th, but by virtue of the long delay surgery may not help, so what I'll be left with when thumb stops being ultra tender is unknown. Spooky. Right foot works well enough for the walking I'm doing.
My wife and daughter deserve halos and Nick Edgington the Eagle scout merit badge. Thanks to all for your support! I will make the next meeting.

IV antibiotics are going in daily for six weeks to finish stamping out the infection. Meanwhile my left hand dexterity is improving and I see an orthopedist this week about getting the right hand fixed. It isn't fractured but there seems to be damage to ligaments and/or tendons. Finally, the severe chills that have been the most extreme problem (now that BP is under control) may be gone soon.

On 8/30 I was at Duke ER, moved to the medical ICU, then to "the floor" while being treated for a strep infection in my blood causing septic shock and extremely low BP. Turns out the infection has grown little tutus on the wires of my pacemaker, and antibiotics cannot reach the nooks and crannies. The pacemaker has to come out: a nontrivial operation. Target is. Wednesday. Then some time later I'll move to a rehab hospital near home. A hand and foot injury from a fall is the last thing on the list. I'm hoping to be home within a couple weeks.
