Just got this from The Forge Initiative. "Build your own 3d Printer
Workshop" as described below.

Looks like there are still a couple of spaces open if anyone wants to get
their family or friends together and build a 3d printer. (disclaimer - my
daughter is one of the facilitators of this workshop. She leads 3d printing
workshops pretty often)

Anyway, I did a workshop something like this with The Forge Downtown about
3 1/2 years ago, and it was a blast! I'm still printing stuff. Hope this
opportunity makes someone's family's holiday that much more fun.

Build Your Own 3D Printer

Just a reminder that the deadline for signing up for the "Build Your Own 3D
Printer Workshop" is Friday, December 9th at 10:00 am so we can order all
necessary supplies as soon as possible.

The workshop is $800 -- for 3 days of expert help, a working 3D printer to
take home, filament, and tools. Plus, we've found that one big benefit of
building your own 3D printer is that you know how it goes together and
there's no mystery. After the workshop, any calibration that needs to be
done or fixing of components will be easier because you know the parts.
Building your 3d printer with experts means that you can ask lots of
questions and get it working so it doesn't end up on your kitchen table for
the next 3 months staring you down when you get to a hard part (maybe that
only happens in my house?).

Of course, participating in this workshop also means 3 days at The Forge
with family or friends between Christmas and New Year's! What a great
holiday activity!

Ben Whipker and Maria Hunter Mackie, Forge Alumni, are running this
workshop between college semesters with help from some other Forge 3D
printer experts. Between them, they've built at least 10 different 3D
printers... Some in workshops, some from kits, and some created from
scratch. They've both calibrated and done trouble shooting for many, many
problems on many different types of printers. Excellent 3D printer building
and teaching credentials!

supplies will be here by the 27th.*

*Build Your Own 3D Printer*
Dec 27th-29th

Families or groups of 2-6 people will work together to build their *own* 3D
printer over the holiday break! $800 per group covers all materials, tools
and instruction.

Each group will take home a fully assembled 3D printer, tool kit, and the
knowledge to print ANYTHING they can imagine!
