Excellent point on the pull down resistors. Floating MCU pins can start loads quite easy, especially on MOSFETS that gate such little current. In an H-Bridge, floating pins will fry your chips, speaking from experience on this one. Then the unique smell that all electronics tinkering folks come to know and love (or hate) depending on if you meant to or not `,~)
