<p>During our monthly technical session on Jul 02nd, <strong>Jeremy Cole</strong> <strong>from NCSU Electrical and Computing </strong>based <strong>Active Robotic Sensing (ARoS) Laboratory </strong>will talk about the broader aspects and current state of the art related to <strong>Biobots related NC state research group project</strong>. It is amazing to observe study of<strong> sensor equipped cyber cockroaches</strong> since the past few years. </p>
<p>Biobot project aims to develop a mobile sensor network where insects are used as mobile biological-robotic (biobotic) nodes. It is very interesting to note that a cyber-physical communication network established between the insects using RF links, along with the neuromuscular stimulation system to direct the control of the insects. </p>
<p>Per NSF, Autonomous navigation in unknown and dynamic environments has been a major challenge for synthetic mobile robotic agents. On the other hand, insects can easily solve such complex navigational problems and demonstrate remarkably stable and optimized locomotion skills in almost any environment. The derived information like pose estimation of biobot agents are used in solving complex problems of life. </p>

<p>ARoS lab focuses on the development of tools for the fields of pattern recognition, estimation theory, and statistical and topological data analysis in order to solve problems in the areas of wearable health and environmental monitoring, robotics and computer vision.</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration:underline"><strong>Speaker Information:</strong></span></p>
<p><strong>Jeremy Cole is a graduate research assistant and a 4th year PhD student,</strong> receiving his Bachelor and Master degrees at NC State. Jeremy has worked on motion planning for steerable medical needles and am currently interested in navigation for swarm-based systems. His research involves the pose estimation of the Biobotic agents used in the CINEMA project.</p>
<p>IEEE ENCS RA24 chapter appreciates the Jeremy's overview about the current state of the art research in this topic that can reach those interested people, thus positively fostering our local technical community. We wish continued success and all the very best to Jeremy's future.</p>
