[TriEmbed] Monitoring Environmental Sound

This caught my eye on Hacker News and seems apropos: audio beam forming for some Macs (that are not running the Apple OS). The author says he doesn't rely on overly sophisticated math.

(the thing being discussed is at the top link and the rest is discussion that frequently goes in crazy directions as there are no topic police. )

In a nutshell, with a collection of microphones it is possible to listen to sounds in specific places, doing the aiming with software.
