The Ham Radio Legend That Vanished!" on YouTube In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: My first computer in 1978 was a Heathkit H8, and upgraded to a floppy disk drive, H19 terminal, and the OS to CPM. My next computer in 1983 was a H151 (XT clone) running MS-DOS 1.75, 64K RAM, 4.7 MHz clock, dual floppy, CGA and Hercules Mono video, a 20MB MFM harddisk, and 2 serial and 1 parallel ports. All of it was thru-hole soldered, and the floppy controller handled 4 drives - the first harddisk was not C:, but E:. Upgrades included a 2MB AST RAM card with 8080 coprocessor so I could still run CPM - at the same time as MS-DOS 2.1 with a lot of Unix utilities (Heathkit's Developer's Toolkit), 2 3.5" floppies, a 30MB RLL harddisk (that made 4 floppies and 2 harddisks on an XT clone!), RTC, sound card with dual game ports, a Z80 chip and 8MHz replacement chips (overclocked the 8088), and a thick-wire Ethernet port. I also enjoyed many other Heathkit kits, like hi-fi stereo preamps and amps, their matching WWV clock and thermometer, instruments like function generators, frequency counters, TV colorburst and vectorscope, frame store synchronizer with video titler, a Ham transceiver capable of RTTY decoding (as in news wire services and NOAA airport weather feeds), a phone patch, and a separate true phone hybrid. Ran across this little O'Scope, its packaged just like Nano VNA etc.- cigarette pack sized. They've made a fancy model (200 MHz- 16 Mpts) for a while but it was too pricey for my use at $200. They just released an identical looking version but 50 MHz- 2Mpts at $99. The display is 4.3 inch which is actually bigger than the a lot of the Big DVM looking scopes like Owon, etc. I love the idea of having the serial protocol stuff built in. Also has a semi competent audio + signal generator (100 KHz). There are some reviews of both the $200 version and this newer version on You Tube- Kerry Wong. The user interface is well done. Kerry does a tear down of the big brother version- big FPGA plus ARM7. Free China post type shipping- 3 weeks. Paypal only. Tell your wife the easter bunny hid it in the garden... Message-ID: <000201dbb71a$d7060410$85120c30$@mindspring.com> I have a CNC machine that I haven't run in several years. I finally have worked my way down to it in my retirement years. The machine is in nice shape and is capable of really nice work but I'm afraid to start it without some help backing it up. Mainly, I'd like to back up the main drive for the system software. I'd then like to bring it up and get it running. I was going to toss all the old controller stuff but in looking around, it's really better than anything out there like Mach3 or Mach4. It uses real servos and doesn't send step and direction to the servos. Rapids can exceed 400 inches per minute- pretty zippy. . It's all servo based with 100 micron type resolution on all axes and a brushless 10,000 RPM spindle and a tool changer. The controller is a Vickers (now Siemens) Automation Acramatic A2100 Control. This is circa 2000 and is a really nice control- modern versions still sell. The processor has two 486's, one for the user interface which is Win NT3.51 and a second that runs some Siemens real time stuff out of ROM's- embedded. Its all servo based with 100 micron type resolution on all axis and a brushless 10,000 RPM spindle. If you have some experience with old NT and can help in any way, let me know. I'm willing to pay a fair rate for your help and time and could really use the help. Thanks in advance. Regards, John M. Wettroth E: jwet at mindspring.com M: (919) 349-9875 H: (984) 329-5420
