That's pretty cool. I guess an 8051 can be implemented in less than 10k gates. At Maxim, I defined an 8051 with nice 12 bit ADC's. We acquired Dallas not long after and it kind of got lost. I used 8051s all over IBM in embedded control systems. It's easy to get them to do 3phase motor control (and every other form of motion control).
