There is a local group that meets once a month, the Triangle Kubernetes and
OpenShift. As their Meetup page explains:
"This is a platform for people in RTP, NC to discuss, participate, learn
and collaborate about Kubernetes, and platforms that utilize it like
OpenShift. The Meetup events are for anyone, regardless whether you are new
to container technology or you are an experienced user or programmer! The
goals are to be platform agnostic from month to month, and to be open to
new ideas. And please, bring lots of questions!"

Their next event is "*Istio Meetup at All Things Open*", Tues, Oct 15,
2019, 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM, Room 306B, Raleigh Convention Center, 500 S
Salisbury St, Raleigh, NC

TriLUG, the Triangle Linux Users Group, had a talk on Mar. 14, "Kubernetes
from the Trenches", captured on video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cBXI-DfUpEg
Topic: Kubernetes from the Trenches
Presenter: Jeff Sloyer, IBM Cloud Containers Service
When: 14 march 2019
"Deploying a Kubernetes cluster is relatively simple but managing multiple
highly available Kubernetes clusters is quite difficult. Come hear straight
from the IBM Cloud Kubernetes Service (IKS) team how they run thousands of
highly available Kubernetes clusters for IBM customers. Don't worry, this
is not going to be a talk filled with sunshine and rainbows. In this talk
we will share lessons of the issues we have had to overcome as well as best
practices for using Kubernetes to deploy highly available applications. If
you ever wanted to learn the real stories around hosting and managing
Kubernetes without any sugar coating then this is definitely a talk that
you shouldn't miss."
