Very cool - I especially like the open sprinkler project.  Last summer, I replaced my “dumb” sprinkler controller with a Rachio and have been very happy.  I looked at connecting this system to the one I already have but, the wiring and tubing required made it seem too hard - at least for this season.  

I have to admit, I am enjoying being able to monitor my soil moisture, temp and watering while at 40,000ft over Japan.  When you stop to think about what we can do with these tools it is very cool.  

I will check out the links you provided as I may look to chance platforms for next year.  I do hope my valve does not “fail open” while I am out of town!  The good news is that I would be able to tell by the Soil Moisture and could have a neighbor walk over and turn off the faucet.  Fingers crossed!
