The Forge Downtown is creating a community event and we are hoping to get
some adult teams that can really inspire people with some more complex
mechanisms - either mechanical or electronic. Raspberry Pi, and/or Arduino
controlled contraptions are encouraged! Check out the release below and
please consider signing up.

How Many Steps Does it Take to Move a Golf Ball?

Do you have a group of friends / co-workers / family members who like
tinkering and are looking for a fun challenge to do together? Have you
watched in amazement at some of those great complicated Rube Goldberg
contraptions that have a crazy number of steps to turn on a light or close
the garage door? (See Rube Goldberg's idea about how to close the garage
Have you ever thought about a whole room full of contraptions, all
connected together?

On the 15th of May (Sunday afternoon), we'll be hosting our first annual
Community Chain Reaction event in the gym at the Herb Young Community
Center. Inspired by a similar event at MIT
(the Friday after Thanksgiving), this is should be a crazy-fun event,
whether you're participating or watching!

*Sunday, May 15, 2016; 1:30 to 4:30 pm Herb Young Community Center Kay Yow
Gym *

*(101 Wilkinson Avenue, Cary, NC 27513)*

*Doors open to the public at 1:30 PM*

*Hands-on STEAM activities until 3:00 and 3:30 to 4:30*

Not sure where to start? We’ll be offering 3 workshops about the “how to’s
of chain reactions” -- triggers, sounds, mechanisms, slowing things down.
Bring your team, or just yourself.
Workshops: May 1, May 3 and May 7

*Form a Team, Build a Contraption*

>From the non-tech world of dominoes, blocks and books to the tech world
of radio-controlled reactions, Minecraft, LEGO EV3's and raspberry pi's,
almost anything works in a Chain Reaction. (We do ask that no flames are
included at the Community Chain Reaction -- leave those for your projects
at home!)

*Become a Sponsor of the Inaugural CCR*

We would love to see this become an annual event in Cary. It fits Cary --
it's science, technology, engineering, design and art. It's story telling.
It's for all ages, skills and abilities. It's a great way to celebrate the
creativity of the people in our community. Sponsors can make a difference
in making this a success.
