Two things about this. A couple resistors to make a voltage divider that 
scales the battery voltage to <= 1.1 volts is needed, of course, but a 
low leakage transistor to turn the monitor on and off is also needed, 
otherwise the divider will suck the battery down all the time. As I 
recall Jeff H or Jim C described simple circuits for this "monitor on 
demand" situation at past meetings.
